Bio
Paula Pröbrock completed her dance studies at the ArtEZ Dance Academy in Arnhem, Netherlands, in 2018 and has since been working internationally as a freelance dance teacher, dancer, and choreographer. After graduating, she continued her professional development in Berlin, New York, and Amsterdam. In the Netherlands, she taught dance for the Dutch company SALLY Dansgezelschap Maastricht and worked as a guest lecturer at the ArtEZ Dance Academy. She performed at numerous festivals, including Festival de Oversteek and the Hoogte 80 Festival, and also choreographed and danced for Tanztheater De Plaats.
In Berlin, Pröbrock worked on a project basis as a guest dancer for LAVAMOVER Contemporary Dance Company under the direction of Anne Gieseke, and appeared at various festivals as well as in the German Dance Sport scene for Jazz and Modern/Contemporary Dance. In 2019, she joined the Berlin-based artist collective collapsetofraction as a choreographer and dancer, and served as the artistic director for several productions, including Kipppunkt, Die Tanzwerkstatt (Editions 1, 2, and 3), and Revolt. Since 2020, Paula has been an active member of Artists4Future, focusing her artistic work increasingly on fostering acceptance and appreciation among people, as well as towards the environment and nature, contributing to the climate justice movement. Her commitment led to her being featured in the television documentary series Wonder Women. Since 2023, Paula has been collaborating regularly with dancer and actress Nele Buchholz, one of the first freelance artists with Down syndrome in Germany.
Class descriptions
Contemporary Dancer Training
In Paula’s class, we will dive into an explorative and physical journey through the principles of contemporary floorwork. The focus lies on developing a deep understanding of the body’s relationship to the floor, emphasizing pressure points, tension and release, weight shifts, breath, and efficient movement pathways. Through a combination of guided movement exploration, technical sequences, and dynamic phrases, participants are invited to create their own movement flow. We begin with somatic preparation and improvisational scores to check into the body and build a responsive body, followed by structured movement material that integrates the principles. Dancers will be supported in developing their own physical language and movement flow, while building strength, coordination, and fluidity.
Inclusive Dance from age 12 and up
The class with Paula is aimed at all young people who want to experience dance together, be creative and get moving musically. Body awareness, the flow of movement and coordination are trained and everyone can join in and discover new skills within the scope of their own abilities.
The class will consist of some technical exercises, but will also offer free movement tasks that can be performed in a variety of ways. Paula will bring her artistic experience in the inclusive dance field to the class and respond as well as possible to individual needs.
Dance Acrobatics for 9-12 year-olds
The Dance acrobatics class with Paula is for all children who want more flow in their gymnastics or who would like to incorporate a cartwheel, roll or handstand into their dance. We will choreograph, improvise, and of course practice, practice, practice – which is bound to happen when learning acrobatic elements. Gymnastics, acrobatics, or dance experience is beneficial in this class, but not required – all kids are welcome!
marameo JUNIOR COMPANY for 10-13 year-olds
The marameo Junior Company: the next step onto the stage.
For those who love to dance and want to improve their skills: The marameo Junior Company, offers the opportunity to train more intensively and take on new challenges. Together and under the direction of Paula Pröbrock, longer pieces are created that help young dancers to grow and develop their expressiveness.
In addition to the annual showing at Marameo, there are additional performance opportunities, both at Marameo and at other venues. The Junior Copmany is a chance to gain stage experience and take your passion for dance to the next level!
For interested children and young people: Trial classes are still possible! We ask for pre-registration via email.
The Junior Company will always train with Paula on Mondays from 17:20-18:20, there will also be weekend workshops and additional rehearsal dates by prior arrangement with the group. In order to become part of the Junior Company, we require participation in at least one (ideally two) other regular course(s) from our program for children and young people in addition to the Monday session.
