Training for Dancers
Shannon Maynor, originally from California, has been a Berlin based artist since 2019. Prior to moving to Germany, she trained and performed with San Francisco Ballet before joining Oregon Ballet Theatre and then freelanced in New York, working with a variety of companies and choreographers. In addition to performing, Shannon has taught all over the world including the USA, Tokyo, and Milan. She has choreographed original works for CelloPointe and for Pacific Festival Ballet’s Kaleidoscope program in Southern California and has completed a residency at Compagnie Marie-Chouinard in Montreal. Her most recent projects were at St. Matthaüs Kirche, The Volksbühne Rote Salon, and as a performer at the La Becque Residency in Switzerland and at Festspielhaus Hellerau. In Berlin, Shannon is currently working with Images Neue Choreografien as a dancer and choreographer and collaborating on a series of dance films with composer Alessandro Paganelli.
Having many influences in my classical training, I pull from them all to create a class that I believe prepares the dancer for whatever they need while keeping them strong and healthy. Challenging the brain is just as important as challenging the body, so while the atmosphere is calm, one must be alert. I strive to inspire the dancers to work hard while enjoying oneself and feeling confident to push their limits.
