Bio
The École Nationale Supérieure de Danse de Marseille, then directed by Roland Petit, is where Mathieu started his dance training. He took classes given by renowned Professors such as Raymond Franchetti, Jacques Namont, Ghislaine Franchetti or Larrio Ekson.
In 1996, he joined the Jeune Ballet de France and danced the company’s repertoire including “Le Voyage organisé” by Dominique Bagouet and set by Philippe Cohen.
In 1997, he was hired by Heinz Spoerli, Director of the Zurich Opera Ballet, in the company’s corps de ballet. He got assigned in creations by Heinz Spoerli, but also in productions of Georges Balanchine, Hans Van Manen and Merce Cunningham.
From 2003 to 2009, he danced in the Compania Nacional de Danza, directed by choreographer Nacho Duato. He performed in his biggest choreographies such as “White Darkness”, “Por Vos Muero”, “Rassemblement”, “Herrumbre” and “Romeo and Juliet” in which he played the character of Benvolio. He also participated in creations by choreographers Mats Ek and Jacopo Godani.
In 2010, Gradimir Pankov hired him in the Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal, where he discovered the universes of Ohad Naharin and Jiry Kilian.
He joined the Ballet de l’Opéra de Lyon in 2011 under the direction of Yourgos Loukos. Thanks to the varied repertoire of the company, he performed for styles as rich and diverse as those of Maguy Marin, William Forsythe, Emmanuel Gat, Rachid Ouramdane ou the Système Castafiore.
He put an end to his career in July 2015 and joined the Centre de Formation Desoblique in Lyon in September 2017.
