Class Description

In my practice I am interested in researching an original language that blends contemporary-floorwork technique with swing dances from the 20s-30s. During my dance education I had the opportunity to study Lindy Hop & Charleston. These dances are pure expressions of fun with a strong sense of community, powerful energetic force and sharing with the group. These aspects particularly attract me and have brought out the desire to include swing dances in my contemporary teaching practice. Since 2020 I have developed a class that is structured on the intersection of these two styles (contemporary – swing dance) facilitated by the integration of the main principles of the flying low technique and a careful work on musicality. I propose an energetic, dynamic and safe-progressive training.
We alternate structured moments with moments of improvisation tasks. After studying specific movement mechanics and short sequences, we dive into a more articulated and choreographic vocabulary of movements. Concretely we will work on the relationship between the floor, the space and the musical composition. But also on speed, stamina, coordination and precision in execution.
For me it is fundamental to create an encouraging and respectful environment where dancers are given an opportunities to further develop and deepen their dance skills, to accept reasonable challenges and to take risks with the teachers support.
