Bio

April Veselko is a frelance dancer, choreographer and dance teacher, currently based in Slovenia. In 2016 she finished Dance’s Start Up – Leggere Strutture Art Factory in Bologna, Italy. In 2018 she continued her dance education with MoDem PRO, Zappalà Danza Company in Catania, Sicily. She created several of her own projects (2010-2023) under production of Zavod Federacija, Scenario Pubblico Catania, Center Plesa Maribor, Plesna Izba Maribor…. and worked with choreographers and companies such as En Knap Group, Sofia Mavragani, Matjaž Farič, Magdalena Reiter, Gregor Luštek, Gioa Maria Morisco, Snježana Premuš, Andreja Podrzavnik Rauch and more. Her short choreographies were awarded at Opus 1 competition for young performers (Ljubljana, Slovenia), 3…2…1… DANCE! choreographic competition (Krakow, Poland) and FKM Choreographic contest (Belgrade, Serbia). April is currently a member of Tovarishia Dance Company and one of the leaders of ŠIK Dance Collective. She is a regular teacher at Plesna Izba Maribor since 2016 and has been a guest teacher for En Knap Group, Platforma NEST, Dance Theatre Ljubljana, Summer Dance School Ljubljana, Studio RIS Belgrade, Tanzhouse Graz, Danceworks Berlin…

Class Description

F(OL)LOWING ARCHES (contemporary technique + soft acrobatics)
The class will gradually evolve through a longer set of exercises travelling across space, step by step waking up our body from horizontal to vertical, from floorwork to upside down positions to jumps.
Aiming to create a dynamic flow of movement, we will explore tools such as opposition, extention, and momentum with special focus on working with spirals, use of side arch and upper body release.
The intention of the class is to integrate and connect learnt soft tricks into an energetic dance sequence led by principles of fluidity and efficiency, following “soft and strong” approach. The class is supported with carefully handpicked music, making sure the vibe is high and dancing most enjoyable!
