Class description
Flying Low is a specialized dance technique developed by David Zambrano.
It focuses on exploring different methods of engaging with the floor, emphasizing seamless transitions onto and off of it.
This approach advocates for a holistic use of the body, minimizing muscle exertion to adapt the technique to each dancer’s unique physical capabilities and natural movement patterns.
Utilizing speed as a strategic tool, the practice leverages potential gravitational energy, navigating through the body’s internal spirals and tracing infinite curves in the surrounding space. This method fosters a heightened state of awareness and fosters connectivity among dancers and their environment.
The class begins with an extensive physical warm-up tailored to the demands of the technique. Following this, a series of targeted exercises are introduced to enhance body awareness and explore movement possibilities, with a particular focus on joint mobility, internal spirals within the body, and the creation of spatial curves. Progressing from simple to increasingly complex and rapid choreographies, the class presents a physically challenging regimen.
In my ongoing research, I am also working to integrate acrobatic elements into the Flying Low vocabulary, enriching the technique’s expressive range.
