Breath and Movement – the Experiential Breath according to Prof. Ilse Middendorf

The Experiential Breath according to Prof. Ilse Middendorf (1910–2009) is a comprehensive form of bodywork that uses the breath as a guide to help participants experience the current state of their body, soul, and spirit. There is no external evaluation, and in the best case scenario, participants are able to let go of any external judgments themselves.
Ilse Middendorf developed this bodywork through many years of research and refined it until her old age. Her breathwork has gained worldwide attention and popularity.

Breathwork helps to significantly increase the body’s sensitivity. By focusing on the quality of the breath in terms of the location, strength, and rhythm of the breathing movement, all regions of the body can be viewed as if through a magnifying glass. The breath gains space and, at the same time, serenity. The movements become permeable to the breath and carried by it. Voluntary movement is complemented and enriched by the breath-guided movement. Movement sequences become smoother and more efficient. Physical self-awareness allows effortless creativity to unfold. One’s own measure of movement in terms of expression and frequency becomes the starting point for physical processes. The joy of the body in being able to express itself without any external restrictions or evaluation takes up space in the personality.

In this course, I guide participants through simple exercises that allow them to consciously experience their breath without it being controlled by their will or thoughts. This leads to a sense of awareness that can be shared with others. Partner exercises enrich the sensations and expand communication skills.

Comfortable clothing and socks make participation easier.

The course is taught in German.
