Dance Theatre Workshop with Repertoire

The Werk-Labor is intended as a dance journey through the work of Pina Bausch. The work of choreographer Pina Bausch, who died in 2009, shaped the understanding of dance in the 20th century and continues to have an impact today. Her language of movement is unique and fascinating and continues to inspire audiences and dancers to this day.

This work-lab is divided into the areas of technique, repertoire and composition. The “Technique” section teaches the basics of the Jooss-Leeder technique, a movement approach developed at the Folkwang University of the Arts that played a significant role in shaping Pina Bausch’s movement language. In the area of “Repertoire”, movement sequences from pieces by Pina Bausch from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s are practiced. The area “Composition” opens the space for own creations and ideas. In this section, participants will get an impression of how Pina Bausch developed her pieces and ideas in collaboration with her dancers. For this purpose, participants will develop and try out their own movements and ideas based on questions and keywords.

With the kind support of the Pina Bausch Foundation.
UTOPINA Werk-Labore is an invitation by the Pina Bausch Foundation to come into direct contact with the choreographic work of Pina Bausch under professional guidance.
More information on the work and life of Pina Bausch can be found at: www.pinabausch.org.
