This workshop will focus on methods of composition through the lense of score-making for collective performance. Each class will begin with grounding physical practices, moving into improvisational scores led by MINQ & Layton. Practices include awakening into energetic presence with the self, others, and the “room” through structured and imaginative provocations for movement; practices of duration, breath, touch, sound, voice, form, force and dynamics, as well as invitations into dancing and physical imagining. Every day will conclude with time for writing and reflection. The class invites trust in and curiosity towards the wisdom, sound and movement of the whole self as a foundation for insight, imagination and collective inspiration.

About Layton Lachman & MINQ

LAYTON LACHMAN is a berlin-based artist. They make performances rooted in somatics, channeling experiential physical practices into immersive, sensory complex worlds. Their work is often a contemplation on the interplay between individuality and the materiality of our interconnectedness. Utilizing a wide range of artistic mediums, physicalities and performative contexts, Layton’s collaged choreographies are often distinguished by their surrealist, psychedelic, dreamlike quality. In addition to their performance practice, Layton is a teacher and guest lecturer at several universities in the USA.
