This two day workshop gives students the chance to train both their physicality and develop or deepen practical tools for any creative process. In the first section of the class, Breeanne guides the students through an integrated uninterrupted sweaty warm up which strengthens, expands, and prepares the body to be available for a focused second half of guided compositional work.

Students can expect to be given compositional tasks that can be completed as a solo, in small groups, or as an ensemble. Throughout the workshop, we will explore the fluid boundary between high physicality and storytelling—how movement alone can evoke narrative, and how absurdity, comedic rhythm, and structured play can transform into theatrical meaning. Through task and improvisation work, students will experiment with crafting moments that blend the lines between dance, character, and abstract storytelling.

Joyous mischief, absurdity, foolishness, structured chaos, and the pleasure of rhythm are principles which guide Saxton’s work. The ethic of these sessions is one of “Serious Fun”. Over the course of the weekend series, small vignettes will emerge, develop, die, and culminate in a collective composition. This workshop is for everyone interested in training their non-judgemental body-mind-body connection to enable generous participation in a physical creative process, i.e. those who want to explore various states of physical play in good company. No “movement experience” required.
