Training for Dancers

Bio

Born and based in Salzburg (AUT), Verena started studying Countertechnique extensively in 2013. Since then she has participated in two One Body One Career Intensives, before becoming a certified Countertechnique teacher in 2018.
Verena studied contemporary dance at Codarts University of the Arts in Rotterdam (NL), where she was involved in works by Jiří Kylián, Marina Mascarell, Jan Martens, Amancio Gonzalez and Jone San Martin among others. During her fourth year of university, Verena joined Norrdans (SE) as an apprentice, followed by several guest contracts with the company. Her work there included choreographies by Mari Carrasco, Katrin Hall, Sasha Pepelaeyev and Lenka Vagnerová. When leading different dance workshops around Sweden, Verena discovered her love for teaching and studied to become a Hatha yoga teacher in 2017. She worked as a dancer for Norrdans in Sweden in 2018 and 2019.

Class Description

„I noticed that due to the difficulties of everyday life, as dancers we easily lose track of why we chose this profession in the first place. Countertechnique has empowered me to make my own choices instead of being the victim of challenging situations I might encounter. It has improved my dancing tremendously and is continuously allowing me to let go of negative judgment. Becoming more aware of my thought process enables me to contribute to the creative process proactively! Countertechnique has immensely helped my confidence. Dancing is so much fun again – it almost feels like flying!
In Countertechnique body and mind are equally important, they are interconnected. Therefore I feel like I can finally unfold my full potential as a performer. What a game changer! Naturally, I really want to share my discoveries with other dancers as well. Teaching is an ongoing process of sharing and caring for each other and the art of dance. The learning never stops, and this is what I love most about it!”
