Class Descriptions
Hip-Hop for Children & Teens (age 10-13)
This Hip Hop class focuses on musicality, dynamics, movement qualities, expression, and choreography. Together we create choreographies that challenge both technique and precision, while encouraging individuality and personal style. Freestyle sessions are also an essential part of the class, offering space to explore your own movement language and bring your personality into Hip Hop. The aim is not only to train skills, but to experience Hip Hop as a form of creative expression that makes every dancer unique.
Urban Contemporary for Teens (age 13-16)
This Urban Contemporary class is rooted in contemporary dance and enriched with urban influences. We explore flow, dynamics, and expression, working with different qualities and rhythms. Alongside choreography and improvisation, we also practice technical exercises that strengthen the body and provide the foundation needed to move consciously and express ourselves freely. The fusion of strong technique and urban vocabulary opens up new physical possibilities and nurtures a versatile, personal movement language.
weissmann Technique
The weissmann technique is a method of teaching and training developed by Jennifer Mann and Heidi Weiss. It provides dancers with tools that support technical precision while they engage in a continual changing flow of movement. These tools facilitate clarity in motion without sacrificing the experience of a highly physical and engaging contemporary dance class.
Contemporary Training for Dancers
Octavia Barvulsky teaches a class that combines contemporary, modern techniques with flowing movements. She begins with a warm-up that focuses on breath and harnessing energy while strengthening and preparing the body for movement. Body and mind are activated and awakened through movement exercises that play with volume and length of the body as well as changes of direction, use of weight/energy and grounding. Musicality and a variety of movement qualities are key elements of the course. A final combination at the end of the class gives you the freedom to explore and play with all these concepts.
