Bio

Born and raised in upstate New York, Josephine trained at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, SUNY Purchase, and Codarts University of the Arts in Rotterdam.

In 2016, she joined the internationally touring Edge Company at The Place in London. Two years later, she began working as a freelancer, collaborating with Cia Denis Santacana on Sharing Home, which premiered in Bilbao and was presented at the 2019 DFERIA Festival in San Sebastián. She later moved to Berlin, where she continued and continues to collaborate with a range of artists. Most recently, in 2023, she performed in #UNDERMYSKIN, an interactive dance film by Enrico Paglialunga.
In 2020, Josephine began her self-funded solo project swallow me. With support from Dachverband Tanz Deutschland in 2022, she expanded the work, premiering it at Hošek Contemporary and presenting it at Acker Stadt Palast in 2023 and 2024, with a return scheduled for October 2025.

Together with her husband, Stefan Crainic, Josephine also leads international movement and acrobatics workshops for both professionals and the general public, including dancers, martial artists, and athletes.

Class Description

This class is for dancers deeply engaged in their practice and seeking to expand their movement capacity. At the core of my teaching, play and curiosity guide the exploration. The class weaves together research from improvisation, coordination, floorwork, and acrobatics – integrating adaptable technique with task-based exploration, so the material can genuinely support and enrich your own practice and style.

I’ll draw from our ongoing research – Human Animal Practice – alongside methodologies such as Flying Low and Fighting Monkey. You’ll leave with practical tools and fresh inspiration – resources you can immediately apply to both your movement and creative process.
