Bio

Born in Berlin Denise left after her German Abitur to Munich to study dance at Iwanson International School of Contemporary Dance. There she was mainly influenced by the technical oriented contemporary style of Rui Horta which set a base in her way of moving and was later sharpened by Jan Kodet. Since 2005 she has mostly been a freelance dance artist and was working with

choreographers like Liam Steele, Maura Morales, Shumpei Nemoto, Giorgio Madia and Golde Grunske. A very close collaboration exists between Christian Weiss (kruegerXweiss) with whom she works since 2013 and who opened the field of immersive performances (esp. audio walks). In 2012 Denise was part of the Staatstheater Darmstadt where she could perform in pieces by Johann Kresnik, Mei-Hong Lin and Carlos Matos. Regular cooperations with Deutsche Oper Berlin allowed her to improve as a performer and actress through pieces by Olivier Py, David Herrmann, Teresa Reiber, David Alden or Jeroen Verbruggen. From 2015 to 2017 she was a member of the cast for „keiner findet sich schön“ by René Pollesch at Volksbühne Berlin.

Meanwhile Denise studied Social Work and did her Bachelor in 2023. Denise has been regular teaching since she finished her dance studies. That allowed her to develop her own signature and artistic approach but also to grow as a person.

Class description

During the class you will have the chance to move through all levels. We will usually start with a well-structured, technical Warm-Up to prepare the body to venture through the space using tools like our breath to create expansion and dynamic. At other times the class starts with a guided improvisation that focuses more awareness on the space and on the group but will always be followed by danced sequences in close relation to the music. The approach at all times is to set a strong base through organic moving and finding ways to maintain a healthy body.
