Training for Dancers
Daisy Ransom Phillips was born in Oakland, California, and studied ballet and contemporary dance in Berkeley, San Francisco, London, and Geneva, where she was a member of the Ballet Junior. She began her career in 2005 with the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève, before returning to San Francisco to focus mainly on improvisational work. In 2007 she arrived in Belgium to work with Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and thereafter collaborated with him on several projects; she continues to represent him as rehearsal director for companies such as the Paris Opera Ballet, Bolshoi Ballet, Acosta Danza, Ballet of Flanders, and many others. Daisy has been fortunate to dance for and collaborate with directors such as Constanza Macras (DorkyPark), Alain Platel (les ballets c de la b), Serge Aimé Coulibaly (Faso Danse Théâtre), Lisi Estarás, Quan Bui Ngoc, and Gaia Saitta, among others. She regularly choreographs for opera and theater in cooperation with director Cecilia Ligorio, most recently at the Oper Köln. She’s been a guest artist with the Norwegian National Ballet, a member of the Göteborgs Operans Danskompani, a dancer/choreographer for film, music videos and concerts, and a translator for theater and for museum publications. She loves to teach, and gives classes and workshops all over the world.
I believe that ballet is a beautiful and useful practice for all dancers of all backgrounds and specialties. My approach focuses on musicality, dynamics and flow, using imagery to create new paths in the body, and unlocking the tools of expression offered by classical forms.
