Class Description

Gaga Dancers and Improvisation

These 5 consecutive classes of daily training will give professional dancers an opportunity for focused research into Ohad Naharin’s movement language, Gaga. Followed by space and time to apply these tools and sensations in their own improvisational exploration. The language of gaga originated from the belief in the ‘healing, dynamic, and ever-changing power of movement,’ helping participants connect to their bodies and physical sensations. The improvisational nature of the class is guided by the teacher, who also participates, through a series of image driven tasks. At Gaga’s foundation we learn to listen deeply to our bodies, absorbing the information in layers. Participants are encouraged to explore the range between weakness and strength, awaken numb areas in their bodies and address physical habits. The classes offer a workout that investigates form, speed, and effort while enhancing our flexibility, agility, and coordination. At the same time navigating through an array of physical qualities such as texture, delicacy, and exaggeration, culminating in a multisensory and physically challenging experience.
