Creation Lab
DONATO CREATION LAB is an immersive performance and visual project centred on a collaborative creative process. Over the course of seven days, rehearsals evolve into a new dance work by Amanda Donato. Invited professional videographers and photographers document the process, and all participants have access to the final media. This includes footage and photos of rehearsals, the final piece, and individual portraits.
This project highlights the value of cumulative, structured creation, as well as the importance of archiving dance works. Each day offers space to explore individual and collective artistry within a defined framework that gradually expands and deepens over time. Fixed material becomes increasingly natural and embodied, while the body strengthens through the integration of training and rehearsal.
At its core, DONATO CREATION LAB embraces imperfection, rawness, and authenticity. It honours the rehearsal space as a site of discovery rather than performance pressure. Donato’s process is inherently collaborative, valuing the perspectives and contributions of each participant.
Amanda Donato
Amanda Donato is a Toronto-born choreographer, performer, director and teacher based in Berlin. Her multidisciplinary work moves fluidly between stage and screen, art spaces, commercial and independent work, and studios internationally. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Toronto Metropolitan University and her Yoga Teaching Certification since 2015.
